Have you ever noticed that after a fallout with someone you loved, suddenly everything around you turns into a constant reminder of them? Everyone seems to have that same name, that same hairstyle, that same smile; every street, every corner seems to have your memories; every song, every movie sounds like they’re about your story. You lie awake at night, reliving the past, filling the future with images of you together, all the while knowing deep in your bleeding heart that it never will be real again.
I’ve known it all too well: the painful feeling of hopelessness, of regret, of not knowing what I could have done to make it better, of desperately wishing that things didn’t have to turn out the way they did, that we could have still been happy, forever and always. But of course, life is never perfect, and love, even less so. In life, as long as you work hard, you will be rewarded. But love, love is different. You have to fight and fight and fight for that love, but the happily-ever-after isn’t guaranteed. Some people break easily. Sometimes they give up, sometimes you give up. But that’s the thing. You can’t give up. As long as you love, don’t give up, no matter what the hardship is. You fall apart and come back together, you do everything in your power to stay on that road, and never give up, because it will be worth it. Love is always worth it.
Then, there comes a time when you realize all has been said and done, and there is nothing else either of you can do to hold back one more embrace, one last kiss, those lost feelings… so you let go. And you hurt, over and over again. You don’t know when it’s going to stop hurting, but all you can do is to pick up the pieces of yourself and keep walking, slowly, one foot in front of the other, until you’ve gone far enough to look back and see that all of those resemblances of that person are just ghosts of the past, and it’s time for you to be free from their haunting.
It’s time for me to be free.

Hope you’re feeling better these days.
It’s October now, and we can put ghosts where they belong.
Love,
Paz
